What Braincoil does
Three kinds of work, one accountable engineer.
Plans that survive contact with the code, and code that follows a plan. Braincoil takes on work where the design decisions and the build need to stay in the same hands.
Architecture and technical direction
System design, technology choices, build-versus-buy calls, and a delivery plan a team can actually follow. Pete has owned large production systems end to end and knows which shortcuts get expensive later.
- System and integration design
- Technical reviews and risk assessment
- Roadmaps and requirements
Hands-on development
Braincoil writes and ships the software: iOS apps, backends, APIs, and the infrastructure underneath them. The architecture does not get handed off as a diagram; it gets built.
- iOS and web applications
- Backend services and APIs
- Deployment and operations
Streaming, media, and device platforms
Ingest, encoding, delivery, live and on-demand video, playback, and casting to the TV. Pete has worked in streaming since its first days and has led partner integrations across more than 100 million devices.
- Live and VOD delivery pipelines
- Device and casting integrations
- Partner onboarding and QA
Track record
Built on 25 years of shipping media systems.
From the earliest live webcasts to platforms running on millions of TVs.
Who is behind Braincoil
Pete Mountanos
Pete Mountanos started in streaming when it still sounded like a science project, deploying VXtreme video for CNN.com and building the first fully automated streaming ingest and encoding system in a broadcast environment. He went on to lead streaming at ImagineRadio and MTV Networks Online, and served as CTO and then COO of Nine Systems (formerly Streaming Media Corporation).
At Microsoft he was a Principal Software Architect on Mediaroom IPTV. At Google he spent nearly a decade as Staff Senior Solutions Consultant and Media Technical Lead for Chromecast and Google Home, where he was the primary technical liaison for Google’s largest media partners and managed a team of eight Technical Account Managers.
He holds four U.S. patents in content distribution and recording, and began his career as an Electronic Warfare Technician in the U.S. Navy. The habit from that first job still applies: keep working the problem until it yields.
